Titan®Protect TA2204 Tiles, Ceramics and Natural Stone is a very fine, water-based titanium-dioxide dispersion. Its formulatíon is a photocatalytically active coating and is fully transparent. Upon radiation with light, the coatings will release oxygen radicals from the ambient air and thus decompose solid and gaseous substrates by oxidation („cold combustion“).


Firstly, Titan®Protect TA2204 is an outdoor application, as it is active under UV light (sunlight) only. The design of Titan®Protect TA2204 providing unglazed ceramic products (eg. roof tiles, ceramic tiles) with self-cleaning properties, to protect them against algae and mould as well as to clear the air from pollutants (e.g. NOx). The active self-cleaning titanium-dioxide particles transform all organic pollution on the surfaces of rooftiles and ceramics, like soot, bird-droppings, stains of coffee, wine, oils, fingerprints etc. , into harmless compositions and oxygen. Calculations learn that 920 m² of titanium coated surface equals the air-filtering capacity of 80 trees.

As the coating has strong hydrophilic capacities, pollution can never scale or “bake in.” 


Titan®Protect TA2204 Tiles & Ceramics and Natural Stone unites the advantages of photo catalysis and hydrophilicity with the unique capacity of nano-technology.  Instead of sticking mechanically on the surface (like waxes or foils do), the use of nanotechnology ensures that the Titan®Protect TA2204 coating bonds into the surface chemically. By doing this, the coating offers a very robust and wear resistant surface. The active self-cleaning characteristics of titanium-dioxide will not exhaust, and will only be lost if one removes the coating.

  • Do not eat, drink or smoke during application.
  • Surface must be clean and free from kit, glue, grease, mold or moss.
  • Rinse with clean and fresh water to remove soap residues.
  • Surface must be dry.
  • Ambient temperature during manual application must be at least 15° C.
  • Do not apply when ambient humidity exceeds 80%.
  • Do not apply in a dusty environment.
  • Wear protective gloves during application.
  • Wear safety goggles during application.


SPRAY, BRUSH or ROLLER application (for instance for fixed or big items like boulders, flagstone paths, installed rooftiles, walls, etc.):

  • Shake container well for a minute.
  • Spray, brush or roll item with Titan®Protect TA2204.
  • Recommended application quantities:
  • Plain surfaces 30 ml/m²
  • Textured surfaces 60 ml/m²
  • Absorbent surfaces 100 ml/m²
  • To form a lasting matrix, apply heat 85° C - 100° by means of paint dryer or IR radiant for 30 minutes.
  • The maximum curing temperature is 600° C.
  • Subject is now ready to use.


BATH application (for instance for bricks, tiles, ceramics before installation or mounting):

  • Place a tub, tray or tank on an even and horizontal surface.
  • Put the to be treated item in the tub, tray or tank. Make sure the item can be submerged completely in the tub, tray or tank when filled.
  • Fill the tub, tray or tank with Titan®Protect TA2204. Make sure item is completely soaked and saturated. Make sure item is completely under water.
  • Leave item for 5 minutes.
  • To form a lasting and washing resistant matrix, apply heat 85° C - 100° by means of paint dryer or IR radiant for 30 minutes. Be strict with these figures! The maximum curing temperature is 600° C.
  • Subject is now ready to use.
  • Put left-over Titan®Protect TA2204 in container and use-up within 4 weeks after first opening of original.
  • Titan®Protect TA2204 will deteriorate fast when dirty or greasy surfaces are bathed.
  • Clean tools, spray nozzles with water immediately after every stop.
  • Wash hands and face after every stop.
  • As nanotechnology is about bonding into surfaces and matrices of nanoparticles need to be built up after application, the treatment reaches full performance AFTER a cure time of approximately 36 to 72 hours, which is dependent upon environmental variables, humidity and heat applied. Tests of maximum performance should be performed after full cure.



  • If the application of heat is NOT possible when drying Titan®Protect TA2204, the coating will still work, but will wear-off due to rain, wind and frost.
  • Re-apply regularly on paths or walking areas that are in heavy use.
  • When installing over poor, greasy or dirty surfaces, the bonding of Titan®Protect TA2204 will become erratic, and so will the self-cleaning results be.
  • Do not allow application during freezing temperatures.
  • The selfcleaning effect will not occur in poor visible light, effective light spectrum < 475nm.


  • Store Titan®Protect TA2204 Tiles, Ceramics and Natural Stone at temperatures between 5° C and 30° C.
  • Store Titan®Protect TA2204 Tiles, Ceramics and Natural Stone for 1 year in unopened containers counting from production date.
  • Storage life for opened containers is 4 weeks, keep containers tightly sealed and store in a dark place.
  • Avoid freezing product.
  • Titan®Protect TA2204 Tiles, Ceramics and Natural Stone is available in 1L, 5L, 20L and 200L containers.
  • Never use pressure to empty containers.
