Titan®Protect TA2216 Indoor Mold Protection is a very fine, water-based titanium-dioxide dispersion. Its formulation is a photocatalytically active coating and is fully transparent. Upon radiation with light, the coatings will release oxygen radicals from the ambient air and thus decompose solid and gaseous substrates by oxidation („cold combustion“). TA2216 is active under UV light (sunlight) as well as under artificial light up to a wavelength of 475 nm.


Firstly, Titan®Protect TA2216 Indoor Mold Protection is designed to protect interior surfaces against mould. The effect of photocatalysis is supported by a combination of silver ions and zinc pyrithione. TA2216 is designed for various interior surfaces (e.g. stone, plaster, wallpaper, wall paint, painted surfaces, plastics), but not for glass, metal and transparent plastics.


Titan®Protect TA2216 Indoor Mold Protection unites the advantages of photo catalysis with the unique capacity of nano-technology.  Instead of sticking mechanically on the surface (like waxes or foils do), the use of nanotechnology ensures that the Titan®Protect TA2216 coating bonds into the surface chemically. The active self-cleaning characteristics of titanium-dioxide will not exhaust.

Titan®Protect TA2216 Indoor Mold Protection is not suited for marble, glass, metal, painted surfaces and plastics. Titan®Protect TA2216 is suitable for industrial application (bath coating or spraying technique). The application quantities depend on the application method and, as to the bath coating process, on the absorption rate. Technical consultation at the nC Surface Technology BV R&D dept. is strongly recommended.


  • Do not eat, drink or smoke during application.
  • Surface must be clean and free from kit, glue, grease, mold or moss.
  • Rinse with clean and fresh water to remove soap residues.
  • Surface must be dry.
  • Ambient temperature during manual application must be at least 20° C.
  • Do not apply when ambient humidity exceeds 80%.
  • Do not apply in a dusty environment.
  • Wear protective gloves during application.
  • Wear safety goggles during application.
  • Shake container well for a minute.
  • Spray, brush or roll item with Titan®Protect TA2216.
  • Recommended application quantities:
  • Plain surfaces 30 ml/m²
  • Textured surfaces 60 ml/m²
  • Absorbent surfaces 100 ml/m²
  • On façade paints which contain organic components, please apply primer Titan®Protect TP2223 (15 to 50 ml/m²) first and reduce the above mentioned application quantities by approx. 25 %.
  • For BATH application, place a tub, tray or tank on an even and horizontal surface.
  • Put the to be treated item in the tub, tray or tank. Make sure the item can be submerged completely in the tub, tray or tank when filled.
  • Fill the tub, tray or tank with Titan®Protect TA2216.
  • Make sure item is completely soaked and saturated.
  • In case of bathing make sure item is completely under water.
  • To form a lasting and washing resistant matrix, apply heat 85° C - 100° by means of paint dryer or IR radiant for 30 minutes. Be strict with these figures!
  • Item is now ready to use.
  • Put left-over Titan®Protect TA2216 in container and use-up within 4 weeks after first opening of original.
  • Titan®Protect TA2216 will deteriorate fast when dirty or greasy surfaces are bathed.
  • Clean tools, spraynozzles with water immediately after every stop.
  • Wash hands and face after every stop.


As nanotechnology is about bonding into surfaces and matrices of nanoparticles need to be built up after application, the treatment reaches full performance AFTER a cure time of approximately 36 to 72 hours, which is dependent upon environmental variables, humidity and heat applied. Tests of maximum performance should be performed after full cure.


  • Re-apply regularly on paths or walking areas that are in heavy use.
  • When installing over poor, greasy or dirty surfaces, the bonding of Titan®Protect TA2216 will become erratic, and so will the results be.
  • Do not allow application during freezing temperatures.
  • The selfcleaning effect will not occur in poor visible light.
  • Effective light spectrum < 475nm for artificial light.


  • Store Titan®Protect TA2216 Indoor Mold Protection at temperatures between 5° C and 30° C.
  • Store Titan®Protect TA2216 for max. 1 year in unopened containers counting from production date.
  • Storage life for opened containers is 4 weeks, keep containers tightly sealed and store in a dark place.
  • Avoid freezing product.
  • nC® TitanProtect TA2216 is available in 1L, 5L, 20L and 200L containers.
  • Never use pressure to empty containers.
